"We do make things true by what we say. . . " --- James A. Autrey

Join Jamie and Maren Showkeir, on this on-demand recording, for an insight into the potential of ordinary conversations as the most powerful force for creating, sustaining and changing the culture of any workplace or community. Because people often fail to see the power, they continue engaging in conversations that create and perpetuate a parent-child dynamic. This dynamic negatively impacts personal accountability and is detrimental to goal attainment, building quality adult relationships and business results.

How often do you:

  • Talk about ways to "hold other people accountable".
  • Discuss ways to build morale among employees and team members.
  • Complain privately to coworkers that a plan designed to improve something "will never work".
  • Keep silent when you were told to do something you didn't think was in the best interest of the business.
  • See something that should be fixed at work and tell yourself, "I can't do anything about that. It's not my job."
  • Keep important business information to yourself because your employees "don't need it" or "can't handle it."
  • Avoid confronting colleagues who have let you down.

These kinds of typical workplace conversations stymie growth and erode commitment because at their core, they are manipulative. All change has its roots in language and conversation - the one we have in our head and the ones we have with others. One of the most powerful ways to change a culture to one where people choose accountability, are personally committed to results and engage adult relationships is to change the conversation.

Authentic Conversations

By clarifying your intentions, choosing language for disclosure and engagement and developing the skills for having authentic conversations, you are on the path to leading your organization in creating powerful and enduring change.

Attending this session begins the process of being able to:

  • Harness the power of everyday ordinary conversations
  • Recognize intention as the primary contributor to authentic conversations, and begin clarifying your intentions
  • Differentiate between using language for manipulation and using language for disclosure and engagement
