Coping with Chaos

Learn how seven simple tools from the field of chaos and complexity will help you generate new points of action for your most "sticky and messy" issues.

Exchange: Design for Coordinated Action

Learn new ways to assess current connections and design powerful new and adaptive exchanges among individuals and groups. This approach lets you focus your communication energy and design exchanges effectively given relationships, context, and environment.

Finding the Fix that Fits: Human Systems Dynamics at Work

  • Session 2: Fingerprints of Chaos - During this session you will learn seven characteristic patterns that shape behavior in self-organizing systems and how you can use those patterns to find the fix that fits.

  • Session 3: Adaptive Action - This session introduces a map to help you understand the territory and plan your most adaptive path of action.

  • Session 4: Mental Model Gymnastics - During this session you will practice using your pattern recognition muscles to critique your own assumptions and those of your teammates.

  • Session 5: Seeing and Influencing - This session introduces you to the theory and demonstrates how it has been used to innovate action in supervisory relationships, community development, education, leadership, and environmental activism.

You are invited to view a recorded introduction to the series - http://breeze.uliveandlearn.com/p41318170/

  • Session 1: Introduction to Human Systems Dynamics (HSD)- During this session, you will explore the basic theory and practices of HSD. You will see how this radical new approach prepares you and your team to look at human performance in powerful ways.

  • Session 2: HSD and Project Management - This session applies principles of HSD to tools, tricks, and techniques that will help you manage complex projects more effectively.

  • Session 3: HSD and Performance Management - This session offers a method of adaptive performance management that supports excellent work even in unpredictable circumstances. It will help you manage performance-yours and others'-even when you cannot predict or control objectives and outcomes.

Program Leader: Glenda H. Eoyang, Ph.D., is a master teacher with deep insights into the art and science of self-organizing systems. As a pioneer in the field of human systems dynamics, Eoyang applies principles of self-organizing to help people thrive in unpredictable environments. Since 1988, she has provided training, consulting, coaching, and facilitation support in both the public and private sectors. She is currently serving as founding Executive Director of the Human Systems Dynamics Institute, a network of professionals working at the intersection of complexity and social sciences. Her published works include numerous scholarly and practical articles, Coping with Chaos: Seven Simple Tools, Facilitating Organization Change: Lessons from Complexity Science, and Voices from the Field: An Introduction to Human Systems Dynamics.
