From Painful to Powerful: Establish Patterns of Productive Conversations

Purchase Program

Join the Human Systems Dynamics (HSD) Institute for a professional workshop series for educators.

In this three-part live on-line series, Royce Holladay, Director of the Network for HSD Institute and former school district administrator, applies the theory and practice of Human Systems Dynamics (HSD) to the specific challenges educators face. Each session will provide a tool for addressing issues educators face daily in their professional lives, focusing on these three core areas:
  1. Address acute, immediate conflict that erodes trust and productivity.
  2. Understand and shift dynamics of chronic negative relationships that are counterproductive and frustrating to all.
  3. Prescribe simple rules for long-term ethical action to build trust, respect, and transparency.
These scenarios are painfully familiar -
  • People in conflict make accusations and assumptions, hurting each others’ feelings and creating rifts that might take years to heal.
  • In organizations, unhealthy patterns form around ways people interact, and individuals feel they are unable to escape or change those patterns.
  • Leaders across the district have disparate perceptions and expectations about ethical behavior, creating patterns of disjointed decisions and unclear motivations.
  • Historical patterns of behavior and interaction have created long-standing distrust and suspicion at all levels of the organization.
  • In spite of multiple workshops, theories, plans and directives to fix it, “ineffective communication” is still named as one of the top three challenges in your district.
But they don’t have to be repeated. You can…
  • Help people unbraid their perceptions from reality and resolve conflict at its core, rather than dance around unclear and unfair expectations.
  • Give people skills and understanding they need to influence patterns of interaction and behavior that have held them captive.
  • Use these new skills and insights to examine the ways in which established policy and procedure maintain these unhealthy patterns.
  • Engage individuals in recognizing and taking responsibility for their own roles in creating effective communication across the district.
  • Establish common language and expectations around ethical and transparent behavior, increasing trust and coherence across the district.
The complete three-part series will be held 6:00 PM ET, 5:00 PM Central, 3:00 PM Pacific on the following days (each session is 90 minutes):

November 18, 2009
December 2, 2009
